Franklin City property tax bills are mailed and due one time per year, usually in October. The City uses the assessments prepared by the Simpson County Property Valuation Administrator (270-586-4261). Per Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS) the owner for a particular tax year is determined by owner of record in the Simpson County deed office as of January 1 of the tax year. If property is sold and recorded on January 10, the owner of record will be the seller.

The 2007 City Real Estate rate was 12.22 cents
per $100 of assessed value. The 2007 City Tangible/Personal property rate was 13.99 cents per $100 of assessed value. The 2008 city tax rates have not been determined yet. The tax rates are determined using a formally stipulated in the KRS and administered by the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD). The City Commission determines the exact rates for each tax year following certification of the assessments by the Kentucky Revenue Cabinet, which generally occurs during August of each year. The issue, penalty and delinquent dates vary each year and have yet to be determined for 2008. The face amount of the tax is due immediately upon receipt of bill, with penalty being added approximately thirty days after the bills are mailed. We DO accept postmark when assessing penalties. Our office does NOT furnish original tax bills to anyone other than to the addressee as furnished to us by the PVA (270-586-4261).
